ParticipantI’m out in Texas year round and make the trip back home to Georgia to hunt with my Dad and Brother a couple times a year and absolutely love it!. I’ve recently been searching land a couple hours east of Dallas, TX and will be touring some properties tomorrow. Found some nice 30-50 acre tracts with decent cabins and heavily wooded. Hoping to find a local place to sneak away with the family and also have a piece of the great state of Texas to hunt!
BTW Georgia’s opening rifle weekend is around October 20 and around November 4th for Texas. That would be pretty good timing.
Will keep you posted if anything looks like pursuing.

ParticipantUpdate – You’ll never believe this, but I have a contract on 36 acres in Texas. I walked a nice tract about 2 hours east of Dallas, TX with tall hardwoods, a large pond, and a small pond. The small pond has an open area near it for a potential cabin site. There is a private road with 400′ of road frontage on the property and private gate for the 5-6 owners that have property off the private road.
When I was walking it I was kind of bummed as I was already looking for a tract with a cabin already built. However, after I got back and reviewed the pictures and thought about it more, I really liked the look of the land and timber and ponds already in place. Plenty of sign of deer and hogs all around.
This tract has power along the frontage, water near by to extend, or could drill a well. Will have to add a pre-fab cabin. It will be a work in progress, but I have faith we can make this place our own.My wife and I spoke in great detail and she was very supportive as we have always wanted a getaway and place where I could go hunt close to home with the ability to bring the family. After a few rounds of negotiation with the seller and Due Diligence, we are officially signed and moving forward. Please keep your fingers crossed, hoping to take possession sometime in late January 2018!
