ParticipantHi everyone – trust that your summer is as fantastic to you has it has been to me.
I’ve managed to get away three times so far and spent a good portion of that time on the water exploring little islets, cozy campsites, slender trails, and refreshing lakes and streams and some days just river drifting. This site doesn’t permit a collage of pictures to share but I can assure you the sights and sounds of the outdoors is as splendid as many of the ones you are familiar with.
Best of all I was alone with me and my thoughts for the most part. Not lonely, not melancholy, not depressed but rather content and happy. Thankful for many blessings. Like the Scripture says, [Acts 17:28] for ‘In him, we live and move and have our being’…I kinda felt that and I suppose the sanctity of the environment supported those inner feelings.
My time with Father Stephen [one of my many Superiors] went wonderfully well in spite of the fact that his Camping I.Q was knee-high to a chipmunk. [Relief!] My trip with Friend Eric, on the other hand, embraced the many skills of the professional outdoorsman. The only sad part was when we came out of the wilderness and listened to our first radio newscast. I shut it off. We are in mortal danger my friends…
I’ll be out again for a stay at a base camp for a week in late September. I’m not planning to do anything spectacular – just veg and try some new simple recipes over an open fire to wow my colleagues.
So…what has everyone else been up too?

ParticipantThank you huntaholic – yah…I’m acutely aware that the crickets are a lot noisier and the days are becoming shorter. There are Back to School sales everywhere suggesting the height of the summer season is beginning to give way to the Fall. Man, that is so hard to say for a summer Dude. :-]

ParticipantHoBo Camping? Not really sure what that is but I would like to learn more.
We have an expression “in this neck of the woods”, called Bear B—- camping. Meaning we take as little equipment as possible and move as quickly as we can to cover greater distances. Though I confess, we haven’t done a lot of that recently. We seem to have settled down to a more leisurely and comfortable circumstance.

ParticipantI hear you Outdoorsma – I’m not an envious guy but sometimes I get to thinking – “How is it that everyone else seems to get away and have all the fun?” But then again, I wouldn’t change my lifestyle. Work we do – and do we work. Something like that. But we still get our chance in spite of the labour we do.

ParticipantThanks, Jack 3 & Crane Man – much appreciated. I’ve always wanted to do more in the Fall but never seem to get away because of work. I’m not complaining but the Fall Season isn’t without a certain attraction. I’m planning to get out more this winter – something I need to do more of.
