With Deer Season getting Close I was just thinking about my first Deer. I was hunting down in Crawford country Georgia on a Clear Cut that was growing Back. I had several Does come by but it wasn’t Doe Days so I had to Wait, I was just looking for a Legal Deer you know with some Horns on its Head. Well it was about 10am and getting late, all of a Sudden I heard a Deer Approaching and it was a Spike. He comes into a small Clearing and I took my Shot, anyway he jumps and runs up the hill and I heard him Crashing what a relief. I found My only picture of me with my Deer. Anyone else have a Good story for that First kill?

GREAT Post ! Nothing like bringing back that day when we got our first Deer and joined the great sport of Deer Hunting. My first Deer was a GREAT 8pt my buddy Jeff from work took me along several times that year. November 3rd 1991 seems like Yesterday, he comes in Silent and I turned around and he was just standing there I managed to get my gun up shaking like a Leaf. When I shot he jumps strait up and runs off down the Hill. Jeff helped me track him and we found him down by the Creek. A GREAT DAY IN GODS WOODS!

Here’s Mine! First kill was in Crawford County Georgia and it was COLD as well you know. My friend and I Bruce Jones had been hunting for a couple of years and Our Wives just knew we would NEVER get a Deer. Well that Saturday Morning we hit the Woods and I was Hunting on the Ground, I heard something running in the woods and realized it was Deer. I jump up just in time to see three Deer run across the old logging Road. I couldn’t believe my eyes well I thought I’D walk that way and try to catch up but when I looked up there was a Deer Standing in the Road. I raised my gun and saw that it had Horns, I don’t even remember pulling the Trigger but I dropped that Deer right in the Road. I went I got my friend Bruce and we Celebrated ! My wife was really Surprised when I Brought home my first Deer. I’ll never forget that day in Gods Woods!

First Time hunting, ever… They put me in the ridge stand, to this day it’s one of my most favorite. An easy walk in, and the acorns are falling all over you! But…The night before I told myself i was going to let the first deer walk, just so i could know the feeling of seeing a deer before ever having to try and shoot it. Well i should have taken my own advice….

Instead, I saw those big ears come up over the hill behind and to the right of me. My heart was pumping, but i didn’t move a muscle. Slowly i was able to move my head, and from there i just sat stone silent and watched this deer walk down the hill towards my stand. As she get’s extremely close, my heart is pumping, and at that point, I decided i was going to make a shot. The deer walked out to the left munching on some acorns, and BAM… I had shot my first deer. Needless to say it wasn’t a big deer, but it looked way bigger to me in my excitement of my first hunt. I’ll never forget that cool weather at the bus on a Saturday morning as i climbed down from the Ridge Stand to tag my first deer; Not to mention, Straws BBQ in the very near future! I’ve since then learned a lot from that hunt… Let the First one or two or three small deer walk, and then kill the big boy…because the cost of the processing remains the same!

It’s aways nice to hear some great first deer stories!

Down in Morgan County along time ago! He was a three PT Buck and I didn’t make that good of a Shot. But the guys at camp helped me with the tracking Job, seemed like I would NEVER find him. Found One old picture. It was a good day in the Woods!

I got my first Deer a nice Doe down at my Dads place in Hancock country, we called the Cabin the Hancock Hilton. I was hunting the back food plot and this Deer comes walking in and looked right at Me, every time I raised my Gun it looked at Me so I had to Wait. Finally it lowered its Head and I got my shot the Deer ran off the plot and into the Woods. Went and got my Dads help to find it didn’t go very far. Cool Day got a nice Doe and made a good Shot with my 30 30.

My first deer was right after Christmas in 1997 when I was 16. I want to say it was December 28th, which is really late in the season and back when they had a break before Christmas so I was very lucky enough to see a deer, let alone get a shot at one. I was 16 and had been hunting for a good number of years before that with a lot of misses. I remember just shooting AT DEER early on. An old friend that hunted with us starting telling me if I wanted to have success, I needed to take a deep breath after the initial thrill and shaking of seeing a deer, and pick out the spot on the deer instead of shooting at the deer.

It was some very good advice, that I have to tell my self even today after I see that first deer of the hunt. Well I believe this was a morning hunt, around 10 AM and I started hearing deer to my left, I was hunting a pine ridge in a stand about 20′ up in good old Hancock County. Started seeing legs and more legs under the canopy. It ended up being 4 does coming in right on the trail I walked in on. Now, with all the misses in previous seasons, I was eager to get my first deer. The first deer that that was through the door, so to speak, I lined up the ole 30-30 lever action with iron sites right on the shoulder and put the hammer down. That deer dropped in its tracks and there were tails going everywhere. Wasn’t the biggest deer, think it might have been 85 lbs, but it sure was tender. My Dad and I ended up quartering it out back at camp. I’ll try to find the pics and post them.
