It was precisely twelve midnight on a hot August night and a sensational moon couldn’t be any fuller than it was. There wasn’t a wisp of a breeze and the dark blue water was a calm as a sleeping dog. The only noise that could be heard was the quiet slurping water when paddles dipped into the deep. We silently glided to our rendezvous point on the lake. It was uncanny to listen intently and not hear anything, not even a bawling distant loon or the haunting great horned owl. Five canoes reached the centre and hooked up with bungee cords. No one said anything but remained quiet for some time. Then my colleague, in a hushed voice almost apologetic began; “Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you, no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord”. In the middle of a gorgeous lake in the wilds of Algonquin, ten guys took part in the Holy Eucharist surrounded by tall pines that shadowed the shoreline. When the blessing was pronounced we let loose the bungee cords and headed back to site. When we reached shore we lifted the canoes up gently to maintain the quiet and lad them to rest on a grassy knoll. No one said anything. Each one of us filled with the Spirit faded into the dark and into our tents to sleep soundly until the morning softly woke us up. May the Peace of God that passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge of the love of God and his son Jesus Christ this Lenten Season.

I can hear those paddles in the water Dancer, you’ve got a way of telling a Story of the Outdoor life that is always a pleasure to read. I think you missed your calling Should have been a Outdoors writer for some magazine or journal you’d have been Great. ONE of the gifts of the LORD to us all is to Share our gifts with Others including the Gospel. A good post as always.

It must be Great to have so many Beautiful places to explore so close to home, we too have many great areas that are undoubtedly givin by the LORD to explore and enjoy. For years know I have enjoyed the majesty of the Fathers Work, I can only imagine what Heaven will look like and only hope that it has Wilderness areas so all of Us who love the Outdoors can Spend time there. Great Post Dancer you definitely have a Gift and I can only say that you are so Welcome here.
