BFMHUNT
ParticipantMy brother and sister in law flew into Texas this past weekend to spend some time with us for a long weekend. My brother and I were hoping to sneak down Friday and hunt the afternoon and Saturday, but the weather had other options. Starting watching the weather and there were tornado watches all afternoon, but it kept pushing out to the late evening. Glad we stayed back though, wouldn’t want to be anywhere near a potential tornado. So we got up early Saturday and drove down to the land. Got there a little late, it was light when we walked to the stand. I wasn’t there 20 minutes and had a buck walking towards me. It turned out to be good looking 6 (got a pic on the trail cam) but just not quite outside the ears, I let it walk. About an hour later I saw movement to the left and it was small. Turned out to be a bobcat and he was on the hunt for small birds. Very cool to see him work. Tail was flicking around the entire time. About an hour after that, had a 4 point come by. I scoped him to be sure as we can take spikes, but both sides had forks. That was all I saw that morning. My brother saw two as well in the morning hunt, may have been the same deer.
We decided to run to town to try the local BBQ joint. It was no Straws BBQ like we’re used to, but it did get the job done I guess. Headed back to camp, and as we pulled in and tried to back up next to the bus, got STUCK in the MUD. Tried to work it out, but we were sunk down about 4″. Called my neighbors hoping to get an assist, but no one was down there this weekend. Started putting sand, card board, and 2 X 6 boards down to no avail. Had to think about it for a minute, but I remembered we had plywood sheets under the bus. We proceeded to jack up the rear tires and place the plywood under the tires and lower back down. 1st attempt and backing out, the tires spun and the truck went sideways off the boards. The front tires were too far sunk. We then proceeded to jack up all four tires and lay plywood under each wheel. After what seemed like an hour and a half, that finally worked and we were able to back out of the rut and aim the truck for a quick getaway after the evening hunt. That pretty much wore us out for the mid day and we took a rest in the bus. Woke up about 3:30 and got ready to get to the stand. I walked all the way to the back and my brother hunted the stairs that we setup just on the edge of camp. We both saw no deer that evening. We decided to hightail it out that evening and get back to the house to enjoy the evening and Sunday.
It was a fun but interesting weekend with getting the old dodge out of the mud. It looks like more heavy rain this week and next. Looks like a 4 X 4 may be in my future. But seriously, how is it already December. I’ll be hoping to get another chance at a spike or a big buck in the next couple of weeks! Here are some pictures from the weekend.

ModeratorIt’s amazing how Fast it Goes especially when we wait all year for it to get here, and if your looking to put that Special Buck in your Trunk and he hasn’t appeared. Back in October when I took that Buck I thought maybe I should have waited but Now I’m glad I have meat in the Freezer. Good luck to everyone in the last of the Season.

Seems like Yesterday it was Opening weekend and it was so Hot but now it’s hard to stay in the Stand at least for Me. Good luck to Everyone still Hunting, I will get a few more afternoon HUNT’S in I hope.
