ParticipantSince we are crowding the end of July, Dove szeason is not that far away. If we can catch a few cooler days you might want to take advantage of the several dog training areas at state WMA’s. Mick and I used to go to the Walton County Dove Field WMA dog training area to get in some pre-season flushing and retrieving practice. Naturally you can simply work with retrieving dummies but for real action live targets are the only thing. You can use either pen raised quail, have your purchase paperwork with you, or pigeons. My pigeon trap would provide plenty for Mick to find, flush and retrieve. It really helped get him ready for opening day and for those later parts of the season when walk up hunting replaces pass shooting. Check out the dog traing areas close to you.
