ParticipantI do a lot of babbling about Green Horns, Tender Pads, Hopelessly Lost and Miss Fits on canoe trips. The reality is that I was all of these at one time.
So, what made the difference?
It was the practice, planning and embracing the challenge.
PRACTICE means head knowledge through excellent outdoor books, videos, learning opportunities by doing. It means hooking up with a more experienced person or group and learning first hand the arts of outdoor living. It means making an assessment at the end of each trip to determine what went well and what one can do to improve on the next time out. It means refining whatever skill you need.
PLANNING means sound thoughts that will be executed in the immediate future. The equipment you will need, how to use it, and how to take care of it. The food you will need, how to pack it, and how to cook it properly. Safety and First Aid practices. Skills such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, portaging, hunting and tracking and strengthening your physical self to meet the rigours of the activity.
EMBRACING THE CHALLENGE means to accept the wonder and beauty of nature. To leave your human frailties behind and absorb the simplicity of life. To bask in the sun and marvel at a full moon at midnight; to swim in natural water and sit spellbound by a campfire. To rely on self and let the mind and the body rest. To celebrate your achievement.
It’s a process that takes time – but it’s a good time spent.

ModeratorYou are Such a Inspiration because you actually do take the time to plan and execute Camping and Conoe and hiking. I have been saying for the last Several years that I was going to take my conoe and go down the Tacoa River near my Cabin in North East Ellijay, this is Inspiration for me to actually carry out this Dream. I have had experience Conoe paddling in lakes and I know I’m in GREAT shape for my age next month I’ll be 59 but I can out work most 40 year olds. Thanks again for the Story and inspiration !

Participant…admittedly I have a passion for the outdoors; some of my colleagues think I’m a bit odd and maybe I am. I find myself energized and refreshed when I’ve been out for a few days. The time away strengthens me and builds me up to meet the challenges of the day. Jesus taught me that – get away and rest. :-]
Father Abbott delivered a study paper a few years back. It was entitled, “If You are Alive, Live Life!” It’s the Benedictine way – live life! I wouldn’t be concerned about being fifty-nine or any other age -if you are alive – live it. That’s not a license to be silly or disregard realities but it does mean take advantage of the opportunities that are afforded you. Remember Moses was eighty years old, “tall and ruddy, with long white hair, and dignified.”
On another note, I’m not sure what to write for Faith Outdoorz because I don’t know the Community. If you [I mean all of you] have suggestions or ideas that I can share with the Community that would be helpful.
Peace my Brothers – and thank you for your kind words.

ModeratorYour doing a GREAT job Dancer ! I appreciate all of the Posts and I think everyone on this site enjoys them as well. It’s kinda Funny but this whole website started out because every time I would go to the woods be it my hunting land or my Cabin in the North East Georgia Mountains or even at the Beach with my Beautiful Wife I always feel Close to God and would thank him for the Opportunity to get back to Nature. I’m actually down at my Hunting land the infamous BUS Property and I was getting a few more pieces of Wood for my Stove because it’s pretty Cold tonight and I looked up at Heaven and the Stars are Out BIG TIME and So Beautiful, I was actually talking to my Buddy Joe and asked the Lord to watch Over him. Looking up into the Night Sky I am reminded Again that there is indeed a GREAT GOD watching Over All of Us Praise the Lord.

Participant…I’d say! Now that’s a piece of equipment I don’t have in my inventory – first I’ve ever heard of one. Smart Stuff! That’s a fantastic gift.
