BFMHUNT
ParticipantI got to go down the second weekend of bow for the weekend. The weather was hot the first couple of days but cooled off for Sunday morning. Friday evening I got setup in my usual spot and not 5 minutes after getting settled I noticed something on the ground moving 5′ out from my stand, big copperhead slitering by. I got a good video of him and then unloaded with the 22 with snake shot. That was the end of him. I must have walked by him going in. Saturday morning I had three does come by but they were trotting and to my right and I needed them to come by on the left for a bow shot and they were moving too fast for me to get turned. Fun to see them moving though. I hunted Sunday morning but didn’t see anything and headed back.
Got a chance to go down the following weekend with the family for an overnight. Got there late afternoon Saturday so I set up the camp and hung out with the girls that evening. It was really a great time by the camp fire and did some fishing as well. It got down to 45 that night and I got up early to hunt for a little Sunday morning. Had two deer skirt me to the left at first light, then all of the sudden I saw movement to my right, three does starting working their way towards the front of my stand. Two does and a fawn. The fawn walked past me at about 25 yards and I waited for the other two. They got close so I drew when they were behind a tree. And then I held and held, and they finally started working out so I could get a shot. However, they were at 25 yards and looking my direction. I couldn’t get it lined up just right to get the shot and they finally saw some movement and spooked off. It was a very neat experience as that was my first time drawing on a deer. If they were a little closer, I think I might have let one fly. But it was a great hunt and look forward to it again.
Here are some pictures of the great weekends.
